The Censor Board of Film Certification (CBFC), that is currently chaired by Pahlaj Nihlani, has been receiving brickbats since the past one year. However, seems like demanding cuts is how the members of CBFC justify their existence. After causing major furore over refusing certification to Lipstick Under My Burkha, the CBFC is at it again, and this time it is targetting Nawazuddin Siddiqui-starrer, Babumoshai Bandookbaaz. The certification body has apparently suggested 48 cuts in the film inorder for it to be certified and screened. And all we are left wondering is if there will be anything left of the film after the proposed cuts are made. Speaking to India Today Television, the CBFC Chief, claimed that they were just doing their job. How industrious!
However, this is not the first time that the Nawazuddin-starrer has run into trouble. Earlier, the film’s actress, Chitrangada Singh, had walked out of the film, citing the nature of intimate scenes as the reason. She was replaced by Bidita Bag. Apart from this, the film’s casting director, Sanjay Chouhan, too, had made headlines when he said that he couldn’t have cast someone fair and handsome with Nawazuddin. The actor himself had taken an offence to this statement and lashed out at him in his tweet, calling him out for his obviously insensitive statement. And now, with the CBFC demanding a whopping 48 cuts in the film, Babumoshai Bandookbaaz is again in the eye of the storm.
The question now is will the makers comply with the CBFC’s demands and make the required cuts to procure a certificate or will they approach the Revising Committee or the FCAT to get their film certified and meet its release date of August 25.
